I Am That Old Woman

 During the 2020 election cycle, the Democratic Party sent out a notice about signs of "blue" being placed on our homes in hopes of a great blue wave in November of that year. Some folks put out blue light bulbs, others blue flags. I chose to hang a blue star on my door. I'm not sure if my blue star had anything to do with the Biden win, but I decided to leave it hanging on my door in hopes that we could maintain our democracy. After all, with the attempted coup of January 6, 2021, democracy seemed a bit fragile. My star hung through the four years of the Biden administration. It became a bit weathered and worn, and there were times when I had to make some repairs, but the old girl made it. Now, after one year of the Trump regime, my star lies broken in pieces.  Last June, as my resistance group was planning yet another rally for democracy and no kings, a friend said that being a resistance community organizer was not on her 2025 Bingo card. Our group had been meeting since March to plan local events for folks in the Frederick, Maryland, area to voice their opposition to the actions of the Trump administration. We organized an event for just about every month in 2025. Our June rally was even noticed by Rachel Maddow and she shared an image of the event on her show. We worked with local organizations to help meet the needs of our local immigrant community and the many federal workers in our area who lost jobs because of Elon Musk's horrific raid on the federal government...the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, DOGE. Hah! The funds wasted by DOGE exceeded by far any money their efforts might "saved." Unfortunately, resistance community organizer will again be on Bingo cards this year.
