Let Me Do Just One More Little Thing
How many times I have said that as I am just about to leave the house for a class, a meeting, an appointment? I'll just put these dishes away quickly, or I'll take a second to water my plants in case I forget to do so when I get home. I even add a few extra minutes to my departure time to cover those last minute, "Let me-s."
This morning I told myself that I needed to be in the car and backing out of the driveway by 11am. I had plenty of time to get dressed, take care of all of the critters, and even exercise a bit. And yet, and 10:55, I decided to quickly run out to the yard and check the pool filter. But while out in the backyard, I happened to see a few weeds and decided to pull those up while I was there.
Needless to say, I wasn't backing out of the driveway until 11:10! This behavior is routine for me. Recently, I have been a good 10 to 15 minutes late for pretty much every activity I had planned. As I was running into choir practice about ten minutes late the other night, I told the director to just call me "The Late Lois Jarman!"
I remember in fifth grade (a very long time ago), my teacher had a sign above the classroom door that said, "The hurrier I go, the behinder I get." Boy, howdy! That's me! But my issue is whatever time I should be departing will also be the instant I find a million other things to do!
I am embracing my tardiness and grateful to the dear, wonderful people who are gracious enough to forgive the Late Lois. I am a work in progress! I am that old woman!
